Selling Microstock Photography with Fotolia
Fotolia Pricing Plan

Fotolia pays its photographers on several different scales.  If you are an exclusive photographer, meaning that you can't post your work on other sites, they will pay you a higher commission and allow you to charge more for you work.  The problem with this is supply and demand.  If everyone else is charging a dollar, why would someone buy your photo for $2.  Here is the commisson percentage chart for non-exclusive members.

There are many different microstock photography sites available on the internet for you to make money online with your photography.  While Shutterstock is still the big kid on the block with the most buyers, Fotolia is also a very good community to join.  Remember, if you aren't selling exclusive rights to your work, you can post your photos on as many different sites as you like.  This is how you can optimize the amount of money you can bring in per month with one photo.  Granted, you will have to keyword each upload seperately, and it can be time consuming, but you could be talking about the difference between making a couple hundred, to a couple thousand dollars per month.  Here are some of the things that make Fotolia unique.
Fotolia Ranking

You may be wondering what you will have to do in order to achieve a higher ranking.  Obviously when you first start, your ranking will only be white, but as more of your photos are downloaded you can advance in level.  Since it isn't based on some arbitrary ranking system, you will want to upload as many of your photos as possible.

Here are the downloads you need to achieve for each level.

Fotolia Referral Program

Unfortunately Fotolia.com doesn't pay you to refer photographers anymore, shucks.  But they do pay you to refer buyers.  You will receive a 15% commission for any photos that the buy downloads, and $20 for any subscriptions.
