As with any other microstock photography site, iStockPhoto requires you to apply before they will allow you to post your work online. You will have to read their manual, take a quiz related to the manual, and then submit 3 photos to be able to join the program. After you have passed their trial, you can begin to post your photos on their site and make money online.
Conclusion
iStockPhoto is a good site to diversify your microstock efforts. You can make a good deal more money by posting your photos on iStockPhoto than other sites. The site has an Alexa ranking of 220 and receives a massive amount of traffic every day. Even though you are going to be competing with millions of other photos, you will still benefit from the massive amount of traffic on iStockPhoto.
Other Microstock Sites
Microstock photography sites are usually thought of as places where you can sell your photos. This is quite true, but at iStockPhoto, you will be able to sell much more. As long as you are accepted to each program you can sell your photos, videos, illustrations, flash, audio, and logos. With all of these different options on iStockPhoto, it is no surprise that they are one of the biggest microstock sites online.
Exclusivity
iStockPhoto.com pays its nonexclusive photographers a base rate of 20% of the sales that they generate. They offer you the chance to become exclusive and bump that rate up to 40%, but I don’t recommend that unless you are just using iStockPhoto.com for a specific niche. If you remain nonexclusive, you can post your photos on the other big stock photo sites on the internet to increase your earnings per image.
